The Walloon Lake Triathlon offers a “Sprint” distance triathlon and a “Sprint” distance duathlon. Relay teams (male, female, & co-ed) are also encouraged to participate in both events. The triathlon consists of a 600 meter swim, a 20-K bike and a 5-K run. The duathlon consists of a 5-K run, 20-K bike and another 5-K run. The first leg of the duathlon will start at the same time as the first wave of the triathlon. Please click the “Course maps” tab for descriptions and maps.
Walloon Lake Community Church, located ½ mile from the venue, is making its parking lot available to our athletes and spectators. There is a trail exiting the church lot which will bring you right to the race venue. Barrel Back Restaurant will be the site for Friday and Saturday’s late registration and packet pickup. Barrel Back will also provide the post-race picnic for athletes and volunteers.
Like most lakes in Northern Michigan, Walloon Lake is wonderfully clear and calm. After the beach start, swimmers will follow a clockwise rectangle and exit the water at Circle Park. Athletes will be directed approximately 100 meters across the street to the transition area. Bicyclists will ride West and South along the shoreline of Walloon Lake on an “out-and-back” course with a few gentle rolling hills. Upon completion of the bike, athletes will begin the run with a 0.5 mile trail run through Melrose Township Park, proceeding East and North through Walloon Village, finishing with a beautiful and flat finish along the shores of Walloon Lake. The run course is fairly flat with a couple short, steep hills. In addition to a clean and scenic venue, some other amenities you’ll enjoy include a “Dri-Fit” shirt, ice cold finisher towels, great post-race food and awards ceremony.
